About

Last week I shipped something I'd been sitting on for a while. [Spectro](https://getspectro.app) is a macOS app that detects fake lossless audio files in DJ libraries. The problem: record pools and digital stores sometimes distribute MP3s repackaged as WAV or AIFF. DJ software doesn't flag it. It plays fine. I built Spectro to automate the detection. It's really simple, arag a folder in, get a LOSSLESS / FAKE / MEDIUM verdict per file in seconds. **The numbers after 7 days:** * Launch date: April 22 * Total visits: \~90 * Sales: 4 × $39 = $156 * Conversion rate: \~4.4% * Paid advertising: $0 * Channels: r/ProductHunters , r/djing , r/macapps, r/vibecoding **What I think actually drove the sales:** The Reddit posts where I explained the problem technically not the ones that led with the product got the most traction. People engaged with the explanation of how to detect fake lossless manually (open a spectrogram, look for the frequency wall). The tool became the logical "or you can just use this" follow-up. **What didn't work:** Product Hunt was almost nothing. 5 upvotes, no sales I can attribute to it. Maybe timing, maybe wrong audience. **My main focus right now:** * Building topic clusters on the blog around one problem (fake lossless audio), every article links to every other, all SEO optimized * AEO structured content and landing pages so AI assistants can extract direct answers * GEO: already appearing in ChatGPT results for a couple of niche queries, optimizing to get listed consistently across GPT, Perplexity, and Gemini **Open questions I'm sitting with:** * 4.4% conversion on cold traffic is decent, but 90 visits is too small to know if that's real or luck * One-time $39 pricing: intentional (privacy-first, offline tool, DJs hate subscriptions). Might be leaving money on the table, might be the right call * Trial is 100 files free. No time gate, no email required. Too generous? The niche is small but the problem is real and no one has built a mod

AI Score Reasoning

Spectro is a highly effective niche utility with impressive early conversion rates (4.4%), but it lacks the market scale and defensibility required for venture capital. While it solves a genuine pain point for professional DJs, it is currently a 'feature' rather than a platform, making it a better fit for an indie-hacker lifestyle business than a VC-backed startup.
