I have built a note-taking app to be FOSS, but now I'm considering monetization. I will not promote.
I've been working on an app for a year now. My main reason for wanting it to be FOSS is that I don't have to pay anything for servers. It has AI features but right now it's a bring your own key, or use local models. I also have something that converts pdfs to markdown for ease of learning, but it requires the user's pc to have a good GPU. Do I have a path towards monetization?
The founder's explicit refusal to promote the product and the lack of a commercial strategy make this uninvestable for venture capital. The note-taking market is hyper-competitive, and the high hardware requirements for AI features create significant friction for user adoption.
