I built a better version of my employer’s software, what are my options? I will not promote
I work at a niche B2B SaaS company. I genuinely believed in the problem they were solving, but felt they were approaching it the wrong way. So I built my own version that fixes what I think is broken. I am in no financial position to just quit my job, and I do not feel comfortable disclosing my product or start selling it while employed. I have quickly read through my contract, and I can’t find anything mentioning non-competes or IP ownership clauses. I wonder how to move forward from here? Any guidance?
While the founder possesses valuable domain expertise and insider insight into a 'broken' niche B2B market, the investment potential is severely hampered by catastrophic legal risks and a total lack of market validation. The current employment situation creates significant IP ownership concerns that would likely fail any standard VC due diligence process.
